he word ‘yet’. A word with three letters. A very inconspicuous word, but is it really?
Up until a few years ago I would have been ignorant to its power and dismissed it as just a word. This was before I became aware of the power of words.
The word ‘yet’ needs a medal, it needs to be elevated to one of the most powerful words in the English vocabulary!
You may ask why? I will let you in on an interesting life changing idea that you may not know yet!
This three letter word can boost your confidence and self-esteem is a big way, if you begin to use it more often.
Here is how.
Have you ever said to yourself something along the lines of “I can’t do that.”
Or “It’s not for me”. Say these short sentences out loud to yourself and notice how that feels.
It’s pretty finite, isn’t it? It’s like the shutters going down and you know that it’s not for you and you can’t do it. The opportunity to learn and grow dismissed in one sentence.
This is where it gets interesting. Let’s change these two sentences with one little inconspicuous word and notice the difference. “I can’t do that yet.” Or “That’s not for me yet”.
Say the sentences out loud and notice how different they feel when you add the word “yet”.
Suddenly the finiteness disappears in a puff of smoke. The word “yet” has had a chance to cast its magic spell. You begin to imagine yourself doing the thing that you stated wasn’t for you and you can’t do.
You might wonder what’s magic about that and let me explain.
If you allow your unconscious mind to play with the idea in your imagination, there is a possibility that you give yourself a chance at something you would normally dismiss.
A chance at something new, something that could change your life.
When you begin to give things a go that you would normally dismiss, you build your confidence and self-esteem. You feel more at ease with yourself and hence happier with a more positive outlook on life.
From today, place the word ‘Yet’ behind every sentence that contains “I can’t”, It’s not me”, and add ‘yet’. Watch your life change in subtle ways before your eyes.
Language is indeed powerful. Small tweaks can have a massive impact.
